Narrowcasting
Narrowcasting can be described as the digital delivery of information to a select audience. The most common form of Narrowcasting is using LCD, TFT and LED displays to deliver promotional and/or informational messages.

Narrowcasting has gained a dominant position as relatively new advertising medium. The extra value lies in the fact that it can display as much content as needed, including non-commercial content. This makes it an extremely relevant medium to visitors: the blind-spot that visitors might have for normal advertisement mediums is effectively bypassed because both commercial and informational content is blended together.

Black Box Introduces Globally Manageable Platform for Wear

Black Box has announced the launch of iCOMPEL WDS, a centrally manageable platform for wearable digital signage. The WDS players feature a screen no bigger than a nametag, but because they show full-motion, customized video loops, they are designed to attract attention and enhance one-to-one sales interaction.In addition to the rechargeable 2.4-inch LCD player tag, the iCOMPEL WDS system includes access to a Web-based portal for assembling and customizing video content with special effects, scrolling text, logos and branding.

Keywest Technology Releases New Version of MediaZone Pro S

Keywest Technology has announced the release of MediaZone Pro version 2.0.15, the company’s first significant update to its new digital signage software application since its initial release in the fourth quarter of 2011. This latest version offers a long list of enhancements, including an Instant Commands wizard to send commands to an individual player or a group of players; a Retrieve Playlist function that allows a user to collect a playlist or schedule of playlists from a player; support for import or export of a playlist or schedule of playlists from an external USB drive; and a redesigned Add Web Page cropping tool.

AMS, IOHI form Spectrio for digital signage, kiosks

Audio Messaging Solutions (AMS), a provider of audio marketing technologies, recently has completed a merger with IOHI (Impressions On Hold), which delivers solutions for on-hold messaging, IVR prompts, overhead music and digital signage, to create Spectrio.
The new company, Spectrio, is combining the audio marketing skills of AMS with the expertise of IOHI, creating and delivering a variety of multimedia marketing solutions through its in-house production and service capabilities including producing and recording on-hold phone messages, IVR prompts and automated attendant greetings; digital signage solutions for waiting areas, retail spaces and interactive kiosk applications; public space music and location-specific “storecast” messaging; multimedia enhancements for the Web, and custom video applications, according to the announcement.
Combined, Spectrio has solutions in approximately 40,000 U.S.

Elo Touch gets in the game at ICE

TE Connectivity is showcasing its latest innovative Elo TouchSystems products for gaming applications this week at the annual ICE Totally Gaming exhibition in London.
Products include a 22-inch gaming LED touchmonitor, a wide viewing angle version of the recently released 2243L 22-inch open-frame monitor, alongside a new 55-inch model in the Interactive Digital Signage (IDS) family featuring multi-touch and a small 7-inch LCD display, according to company press release.
The new 22-inch monitor features a 16:9 aspect ratio high-definition display with LED backlight technology, providing true HD interactivity for the latest gaming applications. The wide viewing angle of 178 by 178 degrees allows colors to remain sharp and graphics to retain their integrity – which adds to the gaming pleasure – while the LED backlighting reduces power consumption and allows for slimmer dimensions enabling cabinet manufacturers to produce thinner and more aesthetically pleasing kiosk designs, according to the release.

Eye-tracking system makes it easy to study kiosk, digital

Tobii Technology, a provider of eye-tracking and interactive gaze technology, has created a compact, portable eye-tracking system designed for cost-efficient data collection in the field.
The Tobii X1 Light Eye Tracker snaps onto screens and devices to allow for real-world eye-tracking studies, according to a company press release. For example, the Tobii X1 Light Eye Tracker can support a portable lab for study of websites or ads directly on a laptop or to research the usability of ticket machines or any information kiosk in real environments.
“Our goal in developing the Tobii X1 Light Eye Tracker was to meet the needs of researchers who required a smaller and more portable eye tracker to give them more options and flexibility in designing studies to capture feedback from subjects while in the field,” Tom Englund, president of Tobii Analysis, said in the release.

Camvine releases desktop media player for cloud-based-sign

Camvine has extended the flexibility of its CODA cloud-based digital signage system with the launch of CODA Player for Windows, enabling users to view content on a desktop PC connected to the Internet. The launch expands the choice of media players for CODA, which also includes the plug & play CODApod, CODAsoft for integrated displays, and the recently launched CODA Player app for iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
