GREENSBORO, N.C., Feb 08, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) –
TE Connectivity has introduced a new Video Distribution System (VDS)
that enables network managers to deliver true high-definition RF and IP
video over an existing data cabling infrastructure without the need for
coaxial cabling or any RF tuning.

VDS enables the delivery of video signals such as cable television,
satellite, in-house video, digital signage, electronic bulletin boards
or any other service normally delivered over coaxial systems — over a
Category 6 or higher twisted-pair infrastructure.

Public hearing set for digital sign ordinance

Digital signage is the wave of the future, and that wave is washing upon Bruce Township.
During its Jan. 25 meeting, the Planning Commission approved of reducing the intensity of electronic signs as well as removing limitations on where they can be installed in a draft ordinance.
Commissioners voted 5-0 to hold a public hearing regarding the ordinance on Feb.

John Ryan deposits network monitoring system for bank digital signage

Retail marketing agency John Ryan recently announced the launch of its digital signage monitoring application designed specifically for banks.
The company said its solution ensures optimal digital signage uptime through continuous system monitoring, rapid identification of network issues and automatic fault resolution. While the system was designed primarily to deal with screen issues, it can also monitor and automatically fix other system components, such as onsite player PCs.
The new, patent-pending Monitoring Service is engineered specifically for large-scale networks.

NEC said the P552 is a professional-grade, industrial-strength LCD display intended for 24/7 operation in venues such as quick-service restaurants, airports, public information environments, healthcare facilities and retail stores. This model includes robust thermal protection, internal temperature sensors with self-diagnostics and fan-based technology to prevent overheating.
The P552 is enhanced with Open Pluggable Specification (OPS) technology, digital loop-through capabilities, reduced depth, 10 percent lower power consumption and built-in 10-watt speakers.

Timberland brings great outdoors in-store with digital signage (Video)

Timberland recently announced that it has launched an interactive in-store shopping experience using digital signage to help shoppers discover the great outdoors with Timberland gear, technologies and brand storytelling.
The retailer worked with Apologue Experience Design Firm to create an interaction between product and digital signage innovation, which it said transforms “the typical retail touch point into a more meaningful communication tool that delivers relevant information and emotional branding to Timberland’s global consumer.”
In the video embedded below, Timberland’s project team talks about the process of creating an interactive digital signage touch point that can also function as a kind of interface between customers and the brand’s own design team, providing feedback that could potentially be incorporated into future shoe or clothing designs.
