Take a stand against ‘showrooming’ with digita

“Showrooming,” the practice of researching products in a brick-and-mortar store and then buying them somewhere else, is getting a lot of attention lately. Not that it’s anything new. Budget-conscious consumers have always been inclined to defect when presented with a better deal.
On a positive note, this practice does get customers into the store, where they are exposed to the retailer’s onsite products and promotions.

HABEY releases fanless chassis for kiosks, digital signage

HABEY USA, a manufacturer of embedded computer and an associate member of Intel Intelligent Systems, has extended its proprietary EMC-900 fanless chassis to fit the Intel Core i3 mini-ITX board.
The BIS-6761/6763 provides a powerful, low-maintenance solution with no moving parts for multiple applications including medical, digital signage, industrial automation, green technology, advanced system controller, POS and kiosks, according to a company press release. It’s built around the Intel HM65 chipset with Intel’s Core i3 2367M and Celeron 857 Processor and consumes less than 25W while offering an integrated GPU that processes graphics up to 1000MHz.
Configured with rich I/O’s the BIS-6761/6763 offers HDMI+VGA dual independent display, six USBS, one COM port, a 1 Gb Ethernet port, Mic in and Line out audio on both back and front plate, and a DC 12V power input for mobile applications.

Digital signage brings the thunder to OKC Thunder arena

Planar Systems Inc., a global provider of specialty display solutions, recently announced that Chesapeake Energy Arena, the recently-renovated home of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, has chosen the Planar Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall System as a signature feature to enhance the arena guest experience.
Following a multiyear expansion and renovation, the arena features 163 Clarity Matrix displays, providing fans a rich and dynamic media experience both inside and outside the arena.
“We are excited to have replaced the previous static displays with cutting-edge technology that engages fans with a broad array of content,” said Brian Byrnes, senior vice president of sales and marketing with the Oklahoma City Thunder, in the announcement.

W3C Workshop on Web-based Signage

A special two-day workshop, “Bringing the Web to Scalable, Eco-Friendly Digital Signage,” will take place June 14-15 in Makuhari, Chiba, Japan. Presented by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), the event will be co-located with Digital Signage Japan 2012, June 13-15.According to the organizers, the goals of this workshop are:identify use cases and models for Web browser-based digital signage systems;find ways to better integrate Web standards into these systems;refine the charter of the Web-based Signage Business Group.The workshop is aimed at companies and organizations interested in the standardization of scalable digital signage, except very large-scale digital signage using multiple displays and specially designed fudge-LEDs panels.
